College of Public Health

Make A Gift

The University of South Florida College of Public Health has served as a pillar of USF Health for more than a quarter century. Through nearly three decades of teaching, research and service, the college has realized a bold strategy to improve the health of the communities of Tampa Bay and around the world.

Creating a Healthier World, One Community at a Time

In the College of Public Health, we believe that public health is about all of us. We are therefore engaged in a grand plan with communities around the world and right here at home to promote the idea that everyone can enjoy a life of quality and dignity if we attend to our own and each other’s health.

This commitment has led the college to become a world leader in the fight against the pandemic spread of HIV and malaria; we’re working in China to explore factors leading to an increase in Alzheimer’s disease; and we’ve joined a coalition right here in Florida seeking to reduce racial disparities in pregnancy loss.

At home and abroad, we’re leading the charge against disease and despair. Now, we hope you will join us in this important mission. Working together, we will be unstoppable.

Healthy Mothers, Healthier Babies

The Lawton and Rhea Chiles Center for Healthy Mothers and Babies is seeking to build its endowment to facilitate its ongoing critical work and to create an endowed directorship. The center’s mission is far reaching, utilizing research, education and service to promote and protect the health and well-being of mothers, babies and families.

Since its founding in 1996, thousands of lives in Florida and throughout the world have been dramatically improved as a direct result of the center’s research and public outreach. The endowment will enable the center to hire and retain a global leader in public health as its director and ensure that the center’s mission is carried out for generations into the future.

Fighting Infectious Disease Around the Globe

The Global Health Infectious Disease Research Team is among the world leaders in malaria research. Half of the Earth’s population is at risk for this deadly mosquito-borne disease. Nearly a million people die each year from malaria; a quarter of a billion people contract it annually. At the College of Public Health, our researchers are working every day to develop new treatments for this deadly disease.

To continue and expand upon this effort, we need additional laboratory space and training facilities that will require renovations to our existing building at USF. These renovations will provide naming opportunities for individuals ready to stand with us as we work to rid the world of this horrible scourge.

Educating the Next Generation of Leaders

The Public Health Leadership Institute of Florida has as its mission to provide the finest leadership development possible to those individuals who are and who will be active in improving the health of Floridians. Since its founding in 1994, hundreds of public health professionals from throughout Florida have taken part in this rigorous program.

The institute is seeking $2 million in endowment funding to ensure that it continues this tradition in perpetuity.

Endowing the Faculty

As the College of Public Health moves into its second quarter century of research, teaching and service, we seek to endow chairs and professorships to ensure a strong and stable faculty into the future. The creation of these chairs and professorships will allow us to reward faculty already at the university and attract the best and brightest minds from around the globe. The college seeks to raise $12 million to create six endowed faculty chairs and $3 million to create three endowed professorships.

Rewarding Top Students

The College of Public Health attracts top-quality students from around the state, nation and world to its master’s and doctoral degree programs. To aid this recruitment effort, the college seeks to add $2.5 million in funding to its scholarship and fellowship programs. Scholarships for master’s degree students and fellowships for doctoral students or postdoctoral fellows may be endowed and named.

The college also seeks to build interest in the undergraduate population at USF through the creation of full academic scholarships for excellent students in the undergraduate public health program. Through this program, we will be able to cultivate great talent in the field.

The College of Public Health is well-positioned as a world leader in its work to create healthier lives. Now, we look to take the next step in our evolution—seeking ways to build on our success and continue to make a difference in countless lives. With your help, we will truly be unstoppable.
