The USF International Nursing Center
The College of Nursing Global Health program provides priceless opportunities for nursing students to gain experience in cultural diversity and enhance their understanding of health care disparities. Undergraduate nursing students complete their community health coursework immersed in the culture of a developing country—influencing their perspectives of humanity and impacting their practice as future nurses. The USF International Nursing Center will expand clinical immersion opportunities for students by developing relationships throughout Central and South America, Asia and Africa. Private gifts will provide for staff, assist with student travel and fund a visiting scholar program.
Nursing Full Academic Scholarships
Academic scholarships and graduate fellowships will create a lasting resource that will enable the college to attract high-quality and diverse students, reward academic excellence and commitment to the nursing profession, and assist with financial challenges that may otherwise prevent qualified students from pursuing careers in nursing. Scholarships can be general or targeted for populations or specific areas of need. Nursing is a passion that transforms a career into a lasting, life-long commitment to better the lives of others. “Nursing is My Life” is a philosophy treasured by USF College of Nursing graduates. These passionate professionals touch thousands of lives throughout Tampa Bay and the state of Florida during their careers. An endowed scholarship is an affordable, yet invaluable way to ensure that the next generation of nursing professionals will be there to meet the ever-changing needs of Florida’s population.
Student Success Center
Our diverse student population will be tomorrow’s health care leaders, and ensuring their academic and life success is a top priority. The Success Center encourages academic excellence by actively immersing students in the nursing curriculum through supplemental course instruction, individual, group and online tutoring, as well as workshops on learning and nursing strategies. Private gifts will help expand the Success Center’s services by providing resources to recruit tutors, develop workshops, purchase equipment and renovate facilities. By endowing this Student Success Center, you will help future nursing professionals obtain skills they need to be unstoppable.
Healthcare Leadership Program
In South parts of the USF region, there is a void of educational opportunities to prepare nurses for leadership. As a result, there is a shortage of nurses to fill these positions. A USF nursing Healthcare Leadership Program in Sarasota-Manatee would bring together a nationally recognized education powerhouse with a ready student population, a large number of clinical agencies and a population in need of many more nursing professionals than the current systems can provide. USF nursing graduates are known for their high standards of achievement and dedication to a principle that “Nursing is My Life,” a calling that makes these professionals sought after by health care agencies throughout the Tampa Bay area. Your support of such a program dedicated to fulfilling the needs of Sarasota-Manatee would benefit the region immensely.
Faculty Endowments
Faculty endowments not only enrich educational and research activities and support faculty leadership development, they are also vital in building an outstanding faculty. Public and private institutions nationwide are vying to recruit the best nursing faculty. Attracting faculty with the essential academic and clinical experience is crucial if we are to keep our college on the very competitive national and global stage. The college has many areas of interest worthy of endowment consideration, including:
- Dean’s Chair
- Psychoneuroimmunology
- Advanced Pediatric Nursing
- Women’s Health Issues
- Advanced Psychiatric Nursing
- Advanced Cardiovascular Nursing
- Health Disparities
- Nursing Research
- Virtual Learning
- Human Patient Simulation
In addition, you or those you represent may have a very personal interest or commitment that would offer the College of Nursing the opportunity to expand its diverse initiatives through a faculty endowment.
Research Center
Through individual and multidisciplinary research, the College of Nursing Research Center expands the boundaries of knowledge in critical health areas such as women’s cardiovascular disease, veterans’ posttraumatic stress syndrome, end-of-life studies and reducing health disparities in traditionally under-reported populations. Partnerships and collaborations with the university, community and major agencies involve nursing faculty in groundbreaking research that benefits the entire community. Endowed support of the Research Center would enable the college to not only attract prominent researchers and develop a repository of national research data, but also to provide opportunities for pre- and post-doctoral students and mentor new researchers in state-of-the-art methods and equipment. Private funding is the key to establishing the College of Nursing Research Center as the preeminent facility of its kind in the Southeast United States.
Psychoneuroimmunology Research
Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) is a college signature research center. PNI researchers study the interrelationships of the brain, behavior and the immune system and their effect on health and susceptibility to disease. With implications across many disciplines, both health-related and beyond, PNI is one of the nation’s fastest growing research areas. The College of Nursing seeks funding for a national center for PNI research at the University of South Florida. Private support would purchase equipment and supplies to measure immune system factors linked with depression, chronic fatigue and other disorders, as well as support development of research in this exciting new field.
