TAMPA (Oct. 22, 2009) – Peter C. H. Pritchard, a globally-renowned environmentalist whose documentary on Lonesome George, the last remaining Galapagos Giant Tortoise, has helped focus the world’s attention on wildlife preservation will host a screening of his film and a talk with students Tuesday, Oct. 27.

The screening of “Lonesome George and the Battle for Galapagos” will begin at 6 p.m. in the Chemistry Building, Room 217. Pritchard will take questions from the audience following the documentary on George, who has been dubbed the rarest creature in the world.

The event is sponsored by the Patel Center for Global Solutions and the Department of Integrative Biology.

Pritchard is the director of the non-profit Chelonian Research Institute, the world’s largest private enterprise devoted to the study of turtles and tortoises. He has undertaken extensive field work on all continents and many remote islands, and has established a permanent field station for turtle conservation in northwestern Guyana.
