TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 11, 2009) -- USF President Judy Genshaft visited University Police on Friday to personally thank the officers and staff for their superb response and diligent detective work in the apprehension and arrest of two suspects in two separate incidents that occurred on the Tampa Campus on Monday, Oct. 5. A third suspect was apprehended and released in a third incident.

The rapid response by the entire university community during these threats on Monday was also noted by President Genshaft.

“Your actions were prompt and effective. Everybody acted appropriately,” President Genshaft said. “We have a responsibility and an obligation to ensure everyone on campus is as safe as possible.”

USF will continue to treat threats and the presence of firearms on campus extremely seriously. In many ways, the university is like an airport – if a weapon is spotted or threatened University Police will respond. Protecting our students, faculty and staff’s lives is the university’s first priority.

USF has six different ways to reach people in an emergency: MoBull, a siren system (ENS), the USF Web site – www.usf.edu, e-mail, video screens and a 1 (800) number - (800) 992-4231.

The USF Web site will contain the most up to date information, as provided by the USF police department. Messages will continue to be refined so that people know specifically the best way to respond to an emergency alert.

If you haven’t signed up for MoBull text alerts, do so today at http://www.mobull.usf.edu/
