Community Engagement Institute
TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 8, 2009) The USF Office of Community Engagement, in conjunction with the Florida Campus Compact, will host a day institute titled, “Engaged Scholarship and Community Redevelopment: Campus and Community Partnership Building.” It will be held on the USF Tampa campus on Friday, Oct. 30 in the Gibbons Alumni Center, Traditions Hall, from 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
Featuring lessons learned from long-term community-engaged projects such as East Tampa, the institute is an opportunity for faculty and community partners to learn about the key components of building sustainable, reciprocal partnerships through service-learning courses.
The institute will focus on partnerships between institutions of higher education and community-based organizations and public bodies involved in the physical, social, cultural and economic redevelopment of neighborhoods. It will include panel discussions and in-depth, practical workshops for faculty and practioners.
A stipend is available for participating faculty and their team members will be eligible for a stipend, paid upon successful completion of the institute and preparation of an acceptable syllabus. Stipends of $500 per faculty member and $200 per community partner will be paid to the USF teams.
Applications to attend the institute are due Thursday, Oct. 22. Click here to access a PDF of the application. A stipend is available.
