TAMPA, Fla (Aug. 27, 2009) The Media Innovation Team at USF’s Center for 21st Century Teaching Excellence and Department of Geology have won an international Silver Telly Award for animation.

The animation entitled, Evapotranspiration, created in collaboration with Mark Rains, assistant professor in  Department of Geology in the College of Arts and Sciences, was awarded a Silver Telly Award in the Category of Best Use of Animation.

The animation shows how this important part of the hydrologic cycle works and introduces students to the calculation used to measure evapotranspiration. The animation was created to supplement the “Spreadsheets Across the Curriculum” evapotranspiration module written by Rains and Christina Stringer for use in a hydrogeology course. Spreadsheets Across the Curriculum (SSAC) is a National Science Foundation-funded project designed to promote quantitative literacy in education and was created by USF professor Len Vacher in Geology.
