Engineering’s Zayas-Castro Wins Imhoff Award
TAMPA, Fla. (July 14, 2009) Jose L. Zayas-Castro, a professor and chair of USF’s Industrial & Management Systems Engineering Department, has received the John L. Imhoff Award from the American Society of Engineering Education. The award recognizes individuals who make outstanding contributions to the industrial engineering discipline, who exemplify the highest standards of the professorate in industrial engineering and who have demonstrated global cooperation and understanding through leadership and other initiatives.
Zayas-Castro was recognized for his efforts in expanding engineering education and research throughout the U.S. and Latin America. As a professor, his work in the Learning Factory has been used as a model for innovating engineering education through Central and South America. As the senior vice president of International Affairs in the Institute of Industrial Engineers, he has institutionalized international outreach and program tracks the Institute’s national meetings. His service as a mentor and role model for numerous Latino students was also noted.
