TAMPA, Fla. (July 13, 2009) – The University of South Florida has appointed Alana M. Ennis assistant vice president for public safety. She takes charge of the division which includes the University Police Department, security, emergency operations, parking enforcement and related services effective August 3, 2009.

Ennis has served at two major universities, as director of public safety at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and as Chief of Police at Duke University.

She also has worked as senior manager of crisis management for the global security office of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.  As a private contractor, her clients included General Dynamics and U.S. Investigative Security Services in Charlotte, NC.

“Ms. Ennis comes to USF with a long and successful history working in law enforcement with a strong background in crisis management,” said Associate Vice President of Human Resources Sandy Lovins, who chaired the search committee. “Her comprehensive experience makes her uniquely suited to guide the emergency response structure at USF as well as add force to our commitment to maintaining a safe environment.”

Lovins will serve as the acting AVP of public safety until Ennis starts in August.

Ennis holds a bachelor’s degree from Stratford College and an M.P.A. from North Carolina State University, Raleigh. She also attended the Senior Management Institute for Police in Andover, MA and the Harvard University Management Development Program.

I’m looking forward to bringing my knowledge and skills and my passion for the field of public safety to USF.”
