School of Architecture and Community Design Wins Two Awards
TAMPA, Fla. (June 9, 2009) -- Two community-engaged projects from the School of Architecture and Community Design were recognized at The Planning Commission's 27th Annual Community Design Awards Program April 16.
The school received two Awards of Merit in the Environmental and Master Planning and Urban Design categories. One of the awards was for the East Tampa Ponds Revitalization project, which involved the transformation of a retention pond into a “community lake” and park. The project was recently dedicated and is one of three ponds to be redesigned as a research project in the School’s Florida Center for Community Design + Research. This project was completed by Professor Trent Green and students Abdias Thermidor and Darren Patterson.
The second project was the Canopy Park Village master plan for the redevelopment of a public housing project. This project was completed by Paula Selvidge and Glenn McKay as part of Professor Green’s Urban Design Studio.
