Employee Assistance Program Offers Seminar for Helicopter Parents

TAMPA, Fla. (April 1, 2009) -- The Employee Assistance Program is offering a free seminar titled "Grounding Helicopter Parents: Helping Parents to Instill a Sense of Personal Responsibility and Independence in Their College Students" Tuesday, April 14 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Counseling Center conference room in SVC2126.

The seminar, presented by Sue Phillips, will look at the profile of helicopter parents and the difficulties experienced when parents become overly involved and demanding concerning their student's life in college. Suggestions will be made on how to redirect these parents to instill a sense of personal responsibility and independence in their students.
