How to Register for CLAQWA Online

·        We will be using the CLAQWA Online web site to submit formal assignments for review (by your instructor and peers).  First, please go to http://www.usf.edu/assessment .  Click on the “CLAQWA Online” link in the left menu.  This will take you to the CLAQWA website.  Next, register by clicking on Sign up for a new student account.  Fill in the required information, making sure to change the default institution to “University of South Florida.”  When done, click Submit

·        In a few minutes, you will receive an email with your login information. If you don't receive a reply in your inbox, please make sure to check your junk mail or spam folder; sometimes email programs automatically filter out this email notification.  If you haven't heard within two days of registering, contact your instructor

·        After receiving your login information, either click on the link that says Click here to log in to CLAQWA Online or, if you have already closed it out, go back to the CLAQWA home page (See Above) and login, using the login name and password contained in the email you received

·        In the Student Details box, put your cursor on Student Options.  Next, slide your cursor over to the drop down menu until Register for a Course appears. Click on Register for a Course, and then enter the passphrase that your instructor has sent to you

·        Next, choose Select next to the course. (Please note that you may click on Change Password at the top of the screen if you want to change your password)

Using CLAQWA Online

(The following assumes you have successfully registered for CLAQWA)

  • The next page has fields for Assignment Title, Assignment Details, Assignment Deadlines, Assignment Status, and Assessment Status
  • Click on Submit Your Assignment next to Assignment Status
  • On the next page, use the Browse button to locate the file that you wish to upload.  Please note that your submission must be in Word 2003 format (x.doc); the latest version (2007, x.docx) is not currently compatible
  • Once you have selected the file, click on Upload Your Assignment
  • You should be returned to the previous page (with the assignment description).  Note that the Assignment Status has now changed to “View Your Assignment.” Please note that clicking on this will only reopen your assignment in Word, and thus is not necessary
  • At this point, you can either return to the Home page or log out of CLAQWA – your assignment has now been posted

Peer Reviewing an Assignment

·        Log in to CLAQWA and navigate to the Assignments page (as described above)

·        In the last Peer Review column, click “View Peers’ Assignments” next to the appropriate assignment; the Peer List page will now open

·        Click on “See Peer’s Assignment” next to the student whose work you will be reviewing to open the Peer’s Assignments page

·        If the student has submitted the assignment, click on Add New in the Comments & Rating column to open the CLAQWA Assessment Tool

·        Read the instructions at the top of the page and then peer review the students work. Please expand each of the main headings on the column on the left – use the subheadings to insert marks into the text.  (Please note that you do not need to expand the next subheadings, as these levels will not be used)

·        You can also insert comments using the dialogue box. To preview your comments, click on the Preview Comments button at the bottom of the page (remember: you may have to disable pop-up blocking in your browser for the CLAQWA web site

·        When you have completed your review, click on Submit Comments.  If you have to do anything before you finish your peer review, make sure to use the Save button

·        Once you have submitted your comments, you can return to the Home page or log out

Reading “Reviewed” Assignments

·        Log in and navigate to the Assignments page

·        In the My Assignment column, click on “View Status” next to the appropriate assignment

·        On the next page, scroll down to Assessment Status and click on “View Comments and Rating” (Please note that if the status is “Pending Assessment,” no one has reviewed your essay and/or submitted any comments yet)

·        On the next page (Assignment & Assessment Details), all reviews of your essay will be listed

·        Click on “View” in the Comments column next to each scorer to see his or her review. (Again, remember to disable pop-up blocking for the CLAQWA site.)

·        At this time, you can only read the peer reviews – you cannot cut and paste comments and so on, so take notes (or work in a separate window on your revision as you look at the reviews in CLAQWA)
